In the age of oversaturated music and AI, listeners crave authenticity with spice.

As listeners seek deeper connections with artists and gravitate towards music reflecting identity, culture, and vulnerability, Latin alternative pop music is the answer. Here are some of my favorite artists right now!

aLex vs aLex is the musical project of Guatemalan born and New York City/Berlin based artist, Sofia Insua. As a singer, songwriter, and actress, Insua makes music that flows between alt-pop and drum and bass with R&B influences and hints of electronic music. Sofia chose the name aLex vs aLex because it’s the name her parents originally chose for her after her father, Alejandro. To her it depicts herself against who she almost was. Growing up in Guatemala, Insua found few avenues to pursue her passion for the arts. After applying to drama schools in the US, she got accepted for a conservatory degree in acting on a merit scholarship. At the same time, the star recorded a song with a friend that became a hit in Guatemala! Her EP released last month cliché has been on repeat all summer. If you are fans of Rusowsky and PinkPanthers you’re bound to love aLex vs aLex.

"otra cama en otro hotel de otra ciudad" from her EP Your lesbian neighbour is playing music next door EP released in March.

Maria Blaya, known artistically as BLAYA, is an indie-pop artist, composer, and producer from Spain. Born in Murcia and currently based in Madrid, BLAYA makes intimate, genre-blending sounds that fuse catchy melodies with electronic beats and melancholic lyrics. Blaya’s musical style spans indie pop, electronic pop, and alternative pop with self-produced arrangements. From an early age, she started to experiment with music thanks to the internet and her Casio keyboard. In 2020, BLAYA had her first independent EP, Silencio. Eventually her first album Grande in 2023 consolidated her sound identity: experimental pop that combines synthetic layers and organic elements with intimate lyrics and an exciting voice. She released an EP in March of this year, Your lesbian neighbour is playing music next door and it’s my current obsession.

Born in the Midwest of Mexican-Honduran descent, judith grew up in a strict religious household before breaking out. She moved to LA, channeled her childhood wounds, started making unique music, and eventually signed with Good Boy Records. A proud member and champion of the queer community, judith’s storytelling is filled with clever and sarcastic wordplay inspiring listeners to unleash their inner rebel and embrace their truth—even if it’s messy. Judith represents Latin American queer women in an inspiring bad ass light. Her single released last month “AY AY AY” has been my empowerment anthem all month.

Mndsgn and Michi's cover of "Are you Lonesome?" by The Feminine Complex.

Michi is the solo project from singer/songwriter Michelle Guerrero. Strongly influenced by the rhythmic grooves of Motown and soul, Guerrero grew up Latina in a Sun Valley, CA home filled with diverse musical influences like Erykah Badu and the Isley Brothers. She was a dancer and worshipped MTV-era R&B divas. One of her most formative memories of childhood is her adoptive parents showing her Stevie Wonder in the car and imagining a music video in her mind. When she was reunited with her birth father at age 22, she felt a calling to follow her childhood interest in guitar, piano, and a musical career. In 2023 she moved from LA to a small seaside town to hone her sound and grow into herself for her debut album Dirty Talk. Produced by Blake Rhein of Durand Jones & the Indications, Dirty Talk is a collection of songs created during a period of mourning the end of a relationship. In July of 2026 she released “Dirty Talk: Sunshine Hotline Mixes” a remix and cover album created with renowned producers Knxwledge and Mndsgn. Mndsgn joined Michi on covers of “Emotions” (originally by the Bee Gees / Destiny’s Child) and “Are You Lonesome?” by The Feminine Complex.

Niko Rubio is a Mexican-Salvadorian singer-songwriter known for blending pop, indie rock, Latin, and reggae-inspired vibrant sounds into her music. Growing up in Southern California, Rubio was influenced by her family’s culture--classic Mexican rancheras and mariachi from her grandparents alongside the rock and pop sounds of California introduced by her mother. Her guiding light of inspiration Lana Del Rey shaped Rubio’s musical aesthetic. In a single year, 20,000 followers turned into 120,000. Her latest single “Kitty” was produced by Austin Corona and Wyatt Bernard who executive produced Slayyyter's WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA. On “Tokyo” she highlights her endlessly evolving sound blending trip-hop, reggae, pop, and soul.
